Anne Cakebread at Oriel Canfas | Video of the Week

This is Video of the Week from Wales Arts Review. We’ll be showcasing some of the best art in Wales with a new video shared every week. From music to drama and everything in between, videos will not be limited by medium. Today’s video features artist and illustrator Anne Cakebread taking us on a virtual walkthrough of her recent exhibition at Oriel Canfas in Cardigan.

We’re heading to Oriel Canfas in Cardigan for this week’s Video of the Week, with an opportunity to take a look at a recent exhibition by artist and illustrator Anne Cakebread. Originally from Radyr, in Cadiff, Anne Cakebread also illustrated sets and props for Boomerang on S4C’s award-winning ABC and is the creator and illustrator of the best selling Teach Your Dog/Cat language books, available from Y Lolfa.

The video features Cakebread talking about the inspiration for her recent exhibition, which focuses on skyscapes and her attempt to capture the feeling of “looking up and realising how small you are”. For Cakebread, the exhibition has been about depicting the coastal environment within the west of Wales and “invoking the memory of what it feels like to be down there”, beneath the vast expanse of sky. The exhibition features a range of compositions, reflecting the variety of Cakebread’s wider work.

In addition to producing her own work, Anne Cakebread is also the curator, manager and artist in residence at Oriel Canfas.

Further detail about Anne Cakebread’s exhibition, as well as other current and forthcoming exhibitions, at Oriel Canfas can be found on the gallery’s website.
