BOI - RIBIDIRES

BOI – Ribidires | Video of the Week

Introducing Video of the Week from Wales Arts Review. We’ll be showcasing some of the best new art in Wales with a new video shared every week. From music to drama and everything in between, videos will not be limited by medium. Today we take a look at ‘Ribidires’ from Welsh band BOI.

It’s Friday which means it’s time for our video of the week feature, today we’re looking at the mind-bending new video from Welsh psych-rock band ‘BOI’ with their new song ‘Ribidires’. The track and music video comes along with an announcement of the band’s debut album, Coron O Chwinc, due to be released on the 25th June via new Welsh label Recordiau Crwn. Each of the ten songs from the upcoming album were recorded in locations around Wales and the album was mixed by Dafydd Ieuan (Super Furry Animals).

BOI bandmembers include:

Keyboards/Allweddellau – Osian Gwynedd
Lead Vocals/Canwr – Rhodri Siôn
Guitar/Gitâr – Ifan Emlyn
Bass/Gitâr Fas – Heledd Mair Watkins
Drums/Drymiau – Dafydd Owen

Osian Gwynedd and Rhodri Siôn were members of Beganifs/Big Leaves for 15 years and more. During that time they recorded multiple albums and EPs, hits included Seithenyn, Meillionen and Cwcwll (to name a few). In this new venture, BOI’s eclectic and experienced musicians have leaned into a guitar and drum-led sound with track ‘Ribidires’ also featuring some doo-wop vocals thrown in for good measure. The video first premiered on Backseat Mafia on 21st May.

Speaking in praise of ‘Ribidires’, BBC Radio Wales’ Adam Walton said: “There’s something very Ennio Morricone about that… that’s obviously a good thing. I’m very, very much looking forward to that album and I do not say that lightly.”

Coron O Chwinc is due for release on the 25th of June. BOI’s single and album are available to pre-order here.
