‘Creatures’ by Lunar Bird | Video of the Week

This is Video of the Week from Wales Arts Review. We’ll be showcasing some of the best art in Wales with a new video shared every week. From music to drama and everything in between, videos will not be limited by medium. Today’s video features the new release from art pop collective Lunar Bird, ‘Creatures’.

It’s hard to say which we’re enjoying more in this week’s Video of the Week, the music – or the video. Lunar Bird’s latest release, ‘Creatures’ features a combination of striking synths and poetic lyrics, all set against a video which celebrates the view of the outsider. There is a simplicity in the videos lingering scenes, which include the use of a stunning butterfly mask and faintly gothic vibe.

Formed in 2017, the five piece band combines visuals with a dreamlike indie sound. Lunar Bird came together in Italy, joining Roberta Musillami and Eliseo Di Malto, who released their debut art-pop EP a year later in 2018, which was followed by a debut album in 2021. Speaking about the release, the band were keen to emphasise that ‘Creatures’ is an anthem for anyone who has felt like an outsider:

“Have you ever felt late in life? Like there must be something wrong with you as what seem to work for other people just doesn’t work for you and you feel like you’re left behind and judged for what you are. Well, we have. It surely takes courage and patience, but it’s a blessing for yourself and a gift for others when you accept who you really are. Creatures is our personal anthem of the outcast.”
