This is Video of the Week from Wales Arts Review. We’ll be showcasing some of the best art in Wales with a new video shared every week. From music to drama and everything in between, videos will not be limited by medium. Today’s video is ‘Cynbohir’ by Gwilym and Hana Lili.
Welcome back to another video of the week! This week we’re entering August with a feel good summer single from Gwilym, featuring Hana Lili. Gwilym are a Welsh-language pop rock group from Ynys Môn and Caernarfon. The band was founded in 2017 and consists of Ifan Pritchard, Llyr Jones, Llew Glyn, Rhys Grail and Carwyn Williams.
‘Cynbohir’ is Gwilym’s first song in over a year and comes with a music video filled with romance and sun-kissed images. With its groovy, uplifting beat and Lili Hana’s light, airy vocals, ‘Cynbohir’ feels like the perfect addition to a summer playlist, especially a playlist for a summer drive.
Gwilym’s last album, Sugno Gola (Sucking Light) came out in the summer of 2018 and was a big hit, making them one of Wales’ most popular acts, and they are currently working on their second album after the interruption of the pandemic. During the pandemic, the band worked hard on exploring their sound and are now back in the studio with producer Rich James Roberts putting their all into their second album.
Featuring on ‘Cynbohir’ is Hana Lili who has recently released her own single with Virgin Music and is quickly making a name for herself in the Welsh pop scene. Both Hana Lili and Gwilym will appear at this year’s Maes B Festival, the youth music fringe event of the National Eisteddfod of Wales in Tregaron in the first week of August.
