Ennill Yn Barod By Ani Glass | Video of the Week

This is Video of the Week from Wales Arts Review. We’ll be showcasing some of the best art in Wales with a new video shared every week. From music to drama and everything in between, videos will not be limited by medium. For this week’s video we continue the football theme with Ani Glass’s new music video, Ennil Yn Barod.

Ennill yn Barod (We’ve Already Won) celebrates the Welsh national football team’s long journey back to the World Cup, appearing the tournament for only the second time ever and the first since 1958. Glass has described the song and its accompanying video as “a little song to say thank you and good luck to our Cymru boys and the whole FAW team at the World Cup”.

Both the video and the song feature Ani Glass’s trademark combination of bright colours and loping synths to create a track which is both playful and catchy. It’s an effect often used in Glass’s work and one which Gareth Smith described as “dreamy and kaleidoscopic” when he reviewed her debut album, Mirores, an album which went on to secure the Welsh Album of the year award at the National Eisteddfod in 2020, as well as being shortlisted for the Welsh Music Prize in the same year.

Ani Glass is the persona of Cardiff-based electronic pop musician, producer and artist, Ani Saunders. Glass sings in her native languages Welsh and Cornish and in March 2020 released her self-produced debut album ‘Mirores’. As well as receiving glowing reviews, the album was also awarded Welsh Album of the Year and shortlisted for the Welsh Music Prize.

Ennill Yn Barod is out now.
