2016 is the very first year of the Cardiff Fringe Theatre Festival. It will present work across seven venues from ten of the most exciting theatre companies in the South West. Come and witness history being made as we pour fuel on the fire of Cardiff’s cultural explosion.
The host venues are Ten Feet Tall, Chapter Arts Centre, Little Man Coffee Co., AJ’s Coffee House, Jacob’s Market, Dempseys and CF24 Project.
The name of the game is variety, so expect selections from both the most raw and most sophisticated ends of the theatrical spectrum. Plenty of new writing is being premiered alongside the more established work of award-winning playwrights like Barney Norris and David Greig.
A key principle of the fringe is to provide high quality affordable entertainment, so although the ticket prices vary depending on the piece, the average ticket price is £5.
“There’s plenty of high end theatre on offer in Cardiff, but we wanted to offer something a bit more gritty and affordable. We took inspiration from the Edinburgh Fringe, where pretty much every pub, coffee shop and venue is transformed into a performance space. Hopefully that’ll be Cardiff one day.” – Joe Burke, Venue Liaison Officer, Cardiff Fringe Team.
