The Poet Laureate, Dame Carol Ann Duffy will be appearing at Caerleon’s magnificent St. Cadoc’s Church on Thursday 9th July.
Dame Carol Ann is possibly the most distinguished and popular living poet in Britain. The first woman to be appointed Poet Laureate (in 2009), a writer for adults and children whose work has achieved both critical and commercial success and features prominently in both school and university syllabuses; the recipient of a long list of awards both here and in the USA including the T.S. Eliot, the Lannan and E.M. Forster, the Whitbread and Forward, the Signal and the Somerset Maugham prizes. Her work is both literary and accessible, serious and humorous. Recently her poem “Richard” was recited by Benedict Cumberbatch on the very public occasion of King Richard III’s reinterment in Leicester Cathedral.
This is an unmissable opportunity for everyone of whatever age.
Dame Carol Ann is a wonderful performer and she will be supported by the multi-talented musician, composer and actor John Sampson.
