Dhyana will be showing two new photography projects in the Grand Theatre, White Room Gallery in Swansea in October.
The subjects are concerned with the environment she is living in and North Gower. She seeks out images that are familiar but often unseen as society tends to have ‘no time to stand and stare’ in these days of frantic and fleeting images that technology promotes.
The Gaia- in Greek mythology meaning the personification of the earth or mother of all life is the basis of Gaia Hidden Stories. It is something that she has been working on since the beginning of 2015. It is not just ‘looking’ but ‘seeing’-a connection with the land and a place of belonging.
Living in the Swansea valley since 1999 has been a life changing experience for her and a vast difference to Cologne where Dhyana was born.
There are no open spaces and common land to explore and virtually no coast line except in the North. Consequently Swansea has inspired her work ever since.
Cwm Ivy in North Gower has been undergoing a great change in recent years since the breaching of the ancient sea wall. This series is ongoing that she is documenting the dramatic transformation of the marsh as each tidal cycle creates a tension and it ebbs and flows leaving an almost ethereal landscape.
Her experience as a lone figure with her tripod and camera in this unique landscape has evolved into something magical.
