‘Guilty’ by Nia Wyn | Video of the Week

This is Video of the Week from Wales Arts Review. We’ll be showcasing some of the best art in Wales with a new video shared every week. From music to drama and everything in between, videos will not be limited by medium. Today’s video is ‘Guilty’ from Nia Wyn.

Welcome back to another video of the week! Today we’ll be taking a look at Nia Wyn’s music video for her track ‘Guilty’ from her new EP Magical Thinking, which was released just last month. Nia Wyn is a soul artist from Llandudno in North Wales, and Magical Thinking is the follow-up to her 2021 EP Take A Seat.  The EP explores many of her own personal experiences as she delves into a world full of betrayal, lust, guilt and anxiety. Wyn is also a songwriter, making her music have an unapologetic tone as she isn’t afraid to tackle and cover topics such as mental health and sexuality.

The EP was released by Unity Group and arrived shortly after Nia Wyn played at Glastonbury Festival as one of the finalists of the Emerging Talent Competition.

‘Guilty’ is a heartfelt personal tale as Wyn details the emotional trauma she had to go through after being taken advantage of. She details the boundaries that were blurred as she tried to figure out her sexuality as a young person. Tayo Odutola said about ‘Guilty’: “Armed with her accented and uniquely textured vocals, Nia delivers a solid performance underpinned by her past and a renewed strength to compartmentalise and find her true north as she got older. She dwells on a myriad of emotions ranging from guilt, naivety, and shame, and how she dealt with it all in her own way.”
