‘PAYRI$E’ by Greta Isaac | Video of the Week

This is Video of the Week from Wales Arts Review. We’ll be showcasing some of the best art in Wales with a new video shared every week. From music to drama and everything in between, videos will not be limited by medium. Today’s video is ‘PAYRI$E’ from Greta Isaac.

Happy Friday, and welcome back to video of the week! This week’s video of the week is ‘PAYRI$E’, the last track from Greta Isaac’s new EP I Think You’d Hate It Here. Crowbridge born singer-songwriter Greta Isaac combines pop, electronic and rock in this track, exposing her raw musical talent as her voice soars through the chorus all while remaining playful and sarcastic. Being described as her “brashest song to date”, ‘PAYRI$E’ kicks off into a loud, dancing tune.

Her second EP I Think You’d Hate It Here follows up her previous debut collection Pessimist, which was released in 2021, and has quickly been gathering praise from every direction. Lucy Harbron from Gigwise comments that: “Greta is more than the sound of the EP could ever get across. Wearing a million different hats of singer, songwriter, artist, creative director and stylist, all the different subsects of her creativity have gathered here. Coming along with stunning videos, beautiful artwork and a fresh look that’s unmistakably hers”

Speaking on the track herself, Greta Isaac said: “I wrote ‘PAYRI$E’ with Martin Luke Brown and Nova Blue in London last year. I wanted to write something that felt unapologetically brash and loud and demanding. I think for a lot of my life, I’ve made myself smaller in order to accommodate other people. Even when I’ve intentionally made myself bigger, funnier, prettier, it’s been to entertain or perform or to try and facilitate the perfect conditions for how I’m experienced by other people.”
