From music to drama and everything in between, videos will not be limited by medium. Today’s video is Holy Coves’ new animated video for their song ‘The Hurt Within’.
For this week’s video of the week, we take a look at the new trippy music video for Holy Coves’ new song ‘The Hurt Within’. The psych-rock band, consisting of Scott Marsden (vocals, guitar and previous member of The Lizzies), Jason Hughes (Bass), Owain Ginsberg (guitar), John Lawrence (guitar) and Spike T Smith (drums), are from Holy Island in Anglesey and have come back together to create ‘The Hurt Within’, marking a new sound and era for themselves.
Holy Coves released their new single ‘The Hurt Within’ via Yr Wyddfa Records back in March. The band then teamed up with acclaimed Ukrainian animator and filmmaker Taras Merenkov to create the colourful, evermoving animated music video that was to accompany the track. The music video was created to emphasise how art and creativity can still thrive to produce something positive from a negative situation in light of recent events with the unfolding situation in Ukraine.
The track has been carefully crafted, being passed through numerous talented hands and seeing multiple locations around the world before its release. It was recorded at the Penhesgyn Hall Studio on the isle of Anglesey, where Marsden and Lawrence acted as the producers, and was then mixed at the Cacophony studios by Erik Wofford in Texas.
On the new single, Malicia Dabrowicz describes the song as “a wonderful track […] full of ache, pain and emotion raging on the sides. You can almost feel like a confidante to Marsden when he is quite obviously telling his life story through words and notes. Such honesty comes rarely in music and when found, it deserves all the praise.”
